Mr. Tarik Ali Khan is a senior Canadian diplomat currently serving as High Commissioner of Canada to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan since October 2025. He is a career officer of Global Affairs Canada with more than two decades of experience in international diplomacy, development cooperation, and multilateral engagement across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Prior to his current assignment in Islamabad, he served as Ambassador of Canada to Jordan (2022–2025), where he focused on strengthening bilateral relations, regional stability, and cooperation in development and humanitarian affairs. Earlier, he held multiple senior leadership roles within Global Affairs Canada, including Director General for Pan-African Affairs and Director General for West and Central Africa, overseeing Canada’s diplomatic, trade, and development priorities across a wide geopolitical region.
His career also includes significant field experience, such as Counsellor and Director of Cooperation at the Embassy of Canada in Colombia, Head of Cooperation in Beijing, and Director roles in Haiti programming following the 2010 earthquake. In Ottawa, he served as Executive Director in the Office of the Deputy Minister for International Development, and earlier as Manager of Strategic Policy and Planning.
He is recognized for expertise in development diplomacy, crisis response, and regional policy leadership across emerging and fragile states.
