Ina Lepel is a highly accomplished German diplomat with nearly four decades of experience in international diplomacy, multilateral affairs, and strategic foreign policy. Since August 2025, she has been serving as Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan, marking her second diplomatic assignment in Islamabad after previously serving as Germany’s Ambassador to Pakistan from 2015 to 2017 and earlier as Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Islamabad from 2006 to 2009.
Throughout her distinguished career, Ambassador Lepel has held several senior diplomatic positions, including Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN and Timor-Leste (2021–2025) and Ambassador to Japan (2019–2021). She also served as Director-General for Asia and the Pacific at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, overseeing Germany’s engagement across one of the world’s most dynamic regions.
Her expertise spans global governance, crisis prevention, counter-terrorism, humanitarian assistance, and United Nations diplomacy. Earlier assignments at Germany’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York and senior policy roles in Berlin further strengthened her international credentials. Holding Master’s degrees in Economics from Indiana University and the University of Bonn, Ambassador Lepel is recognized for her deep regional insight, diplomatic leadership, and longstanding engagement with Asia, particularly Pakistan.
